FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We’re thrilled that you’re interested in learning more about Bodhi Barre.  We believe that everyone is capable of rocking our classes with no dance experience required. Here are some of our most frequently asked questions.

  • What is Bodhi Barre?

Bodhi Barre is a fusion of ballet technique, core strengthening, Pilates and yoga that will challenge your mind and change your body. "Bodhi" comes from the Sanskrit word for "awareness" or "knowledge" and "Barre" comes from the French for the technique ballet dancers use to exercise and gain strength. We want our students to become aware of the strength they can gain through practicing barre… Bodhi Barre!

  • Is there any ballet or dance involved?

No, we just borrow the ballet positions while utilizing a combination of dynamic and isometric movements along with fundamentals from Pilates and yoga to tone, strengthen, and lengthen the body.

  • What should I wear to barre class?

We require all students and instructors to wear barre socks (they have grips on the bottom). It is for your safety on the floor of the studio, hygienic purposes, and they keep your feet warm to protect you from injury. You can purchase them online or in the studio for $15. We suggest a cropped or form fitting legging so that you can check your alignment in the mirror and a breathable top; the more comfortable the better!

  • Do I have to have experience? Who can take the classes?

Bodhi Barre classes are modified by the instructors to be accessible to all ages and abilities. The instructors are there, not just to lead the classes, but to answer any questions/concerns you may have. Please do let your instructor know if you have any specific injuries so that they can show you the modifications that will work best for you. Above all, we want to personalize your workout to your pace so that you can get the most out of your time and feel as great as possible!

  • What if I arrive late?

We can’t allow anyone to enter the class after the first 5 minutes have started; it would take away from the other students and instructor’s time. We prefer that new students arrive 10-15 minutes before class. After filling out a waiver, you can store your belongings in the locker room, and then you should set up in the barre room with weights, a ball, a strap and a mat. We have complimentary coffee and water at the studio.

  • How do I guarantee that I am able to take the classes I want to take?

Pre-register on our website or download the MindBody Connect App (free) on your smartphone. This safe, advanced sign-up allows each instructor to plan for class size accordingly. Bodhi Barre has a 12 hour cancellation policy for all classes.

  • Can I bring my child?

Children under 18 are allowed to attend class with signed permission form a parent, but please understand it is a dynamic workout and a certain amount of maturity and body awareness is required. We would rather not decide what age is appropriate and leave that to the discretion of the parent. We believe in the benefits of individual instruction as a first step, so the minor becomes familiar with the positions and movements and then can enter a class. Please note *** NO CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 18 are to be left in the waiting area, dressing rooms, etc at anytime without direct supervision of an adult. We cannot be held legally responsible for the risk of unattended children, we apologize for the inconvenience but our insurance is not set up as such.
